&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ing Lawrence C Ciantar&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; C. Eng.; FIET, Eur.Ing, MoM (4 September 1929 - 12 September 2019) was an engineer and former Enemalta Corporation chairman who oversaw major projects in the development of the electricity distribution network of the Maltese Islands.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Born on 4 September 1929, he spent his childhood at [[Birgu|Vittoriosa]]; was educated at the [[De La Salle College]] and then followed an engineering course with the Royal Navy at the Admiralty School where he graduated as Chartered Engineer.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Mr Ciantar started his work with the Government as an engineer with the Water and Electricity Department. He also served as Chief Engineer and General Manager of the Malta Electricity Board and continued to serve in this role following the establishment of state energy company Enemalta Corporation in 1977.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ciantar was a pioneer in the development of electricity generation systems and distribution networks in Malta and Gozo. There were also several occasions that engineer Ciantar has been entrusted by different administrations to represent the Government of Malta.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He was trusted with such projects as the Marsa B Power Station building, the dismantling of the Palermo power plant which was brought to Malta to cater for the increase in electricity demand and the installation of the same plant as an extension to the Marsa Power Station. He was also involved in the first phase of the Delimara Power Station.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Engineer Ciantar was awarded with the [[Midalja għall-Qadi tar-Repubblika]] and nominated as [[Member of the Order of Merit]] in 2002 as a recognition for his dedicated work in the energy sector and service he had given in different areas.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
He had been married to Ivy Ciantar and had four children, Arthur, Rosanne, Marilou and Lawrence.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Lawrence Ciantar died on 12 September 2019 aged 90. His funeral was held on 16 September at the [[Santa Luċija]] parish Church.&lt;br /&gt;
